Victorville grew up around the railroad, and the post office made the name official in 1901. Old Town still holds the California Route 66 Museum, opened in 1995 in the former Red Rooster Café.
This is also a town that knows what a lifetime collection is worth. The Roy Rogers–Dale Evans Museum called Victorville home from 1976 to 2003, and when that collection finally went to auction at Christie’s in July 2010 it realized just under $3 million.
